Gardens on Tour:

Tom Bodett and Rita Ramirezs garden is built around natural cascading pools and a salt water swimming pool, which is surrounded by goshen stonework, abundant gardens, acres of hayfields and distant views. The gardens were planted with every season in mind, with interesting combinations of annuals, perennials and shrubs. Other features include the Pergola garden, the fire pit, boci court garden, and gravel garden.

Deborah Holway's garden is built around an old cape from the 1700's, with original stone walls providing a framework for the gardens. The gardens are created by two generations of Holways; designed by the late plantswoman Alice Holway, and now her niece, Deborah has carried the gardens on in her own style. Full of interesting plant combinations, juxtaposing classic plants with wild and exotic annuals, the garden feels fresh and timeless at the same time.

Penelope Wurr & Michael Wilner
This pretty split level walled cottage garden is coddled by an old tree apple orchard and a gracious long path through meadow to a sundial. The architecture is based much like many other English gardens on straight lines and rectangular rooms. Views through the landscape, hedges and arches abound.

When Bobby Scott and Margaret Everitt bought their property in Dummerston 25 years ago, it was for the land- with beautiful undulating fields, magical vistas, ancient rockeries, a graceful spring fed pond and mature black locusts surrounding the house. Bobby envisioned an all green courtyard garden, a peony hedge of over 100 varieties, a flowering cherry orchard, a perennial sunken garden, and abundant lilacs. In addition to Bobby's vision, none of it could have happened without Edwin de Bruijn, Linda Baily, Helen O'Donnell and Maria and Steve Glabach.

Joan and Nick Thorndikes garden has been a lovely collaboration of expertise, hard work, trial and error and great spirit over the past 30 years. Crediting the talents and friendships of their amazing team over the many years, they feel fortunate to open and share the garden for this tour.

Catherine Dianich Gruver
The Red House is tucked into the center of Dummerston.  The relaxed garden surrounding this 18th century cape features considered plantings that fill the gardens with blooms and fragrance from early spring until late autumn.  Stone walls created from stones on the property serve as an elegant structure for many of the gardens, giving them a distinct New England feel.  Many  interesting ornamental plants on display as well as productive perennial food production in the surrounding gardens.
