ABHIMATA - The Beloved
Love, is the strongest human emotion. Joy, sorrow, desire and longing are all born of love. Love for the beloved is paralleled to the union with the 'supreme consciousness'. In love, we give up the idea of ourselves and exist in surrender to the one that we love. This idea repeats in classical Indian dance in many ways and forms where the longing for the beloved is a representation of a longing to know The Self.
Abhimata explores the love in union and separation through the representations of various stories from the Bhagavatam, the Ramayana and the Puranas.
