Ladd Outdoors: V.8: Spirit Award//Shadowlands//OVER//Yuvees
SPIRIT AWARD
Seattle based three-piece Spirit Award are known for their unique mix of sprawling stereo guitars, stunningly moody soundscapes and a driving drum and bass foundation. While Spirit Award are aptly capable of generating catchy psych moments, there seems to be no calculable formula to their writing style. Comprised of Daniel Lyon, Chris Moore and Terence Ankeny, the trios mutual goal in creating a sound with grit and authenticity is clearly evident throughout their music.
SHADOWLANDS
Sometimes, you dont want to tell a story. Old, faded memories, limned with nostalgic glow and that sense of familiarity we all take for granted nowadays. There are four. We know them, now, by name. As we know those other few, the Ringos and the Jimis and the Kurts and the J. Rottens, we know Amy and Casey and Jason and Jesse, but how do we divulge the story without either impinging upon privacy (for they are private) or intruding on legend (for they have legacy)?
OVER
Over is a four piece post-punk/anarcho-punk/death rock band based out of Portland, Oregon. Over started in October 2016 in the age of creeping fascism with Lillian Void (Smoke Rings, Useless Eaters, Broken Spirit) and Justin Cory (Usnea, 1919) and quickly picked up members Andrew Grosse (Caravan Recordings, Billions and Billions) and Ruby Monet by December. Andrew moved and Josh Dark (Atriarch, Di Di Mau) joined in on bass. Justin moved on to spend more time with his family and amazing doom band so Over employed the expertise of local punk legend Just Dave (Rotties, Nux Vomica). Collective influences range from Doom to Shoegaze to Punk, with our most salient roots being in Anarcho-Punk and Post-Punk, giving Over sonic likeness to early era Siouxsie and the Banshees, Killing Joke, and Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.
YUVEES
YUVEES were born to the brothers Broome in Columbus,OH in 2016. In an effort to escape their quickly deteriorating environment, they fashioned a live-in tour vehicle (with former drummer Justin Barlow) and set sail on what was supposed to be a never ending tour supporting a hastily made living room demo. Eventually, the vehicle died in Silver City, New Mexico and the band was retrieved from the desert by a close friend. They managed to continue traveling till funds & shows dwindled, landing them in Portland, OR. They recorded the EP "Seething in whisper town" in April of 2018 before the departure of drummer Justin Barlow. The band currently gigs in the pacific northwest with a new line-up poised for an upcoming tour and LP. The band seamlessly transitioned from a stark and barreling 3 piece, to a playfully noise-laden, dance-driven 5 piece with the addition of Samantha Oxley, Danny Welch(Old Outfits) & Riley Mclaughlin.
YUVEES are known for their chaotic, quirky performances and have often been tossed about as being a "Mutant Disco" or a "No Wave" band.
