FAF 2019 Introduction to Cajon
CLASS DESCRIPTION:  

This workshop is open to everyone!  The cajon, an Afro-Peruvian box drum, is one of the most important percussion instruments in flamenco.  

No previous percussion experience required.  Learn basic flamenco rhythms and techniques. Up to 15 cajones will be provided at no extra charge.

DIEGO "EL NEGRO" ALVAREZ

Diego "El Negro" Alvarez master cajón player born in Venezuela lived 16 years in Spain where he developed an amazing career alongside the most prestigious flamenco dance companies such as Joaquin Cortez, Antonio Canales, Sara Baras, Nuevo Ballet Español, and Paco Peña among others.  He has more than 12 Latin Grammy nominations and winner of a Latin Grammy in 2010 for best Rock album of the year for "Sera" by La Vida Boheme. Promoting the cajon as a universal instrument and its Peruvian and flamenco roots, Mr. Alvarez lives in Los Angeles, California, where he continues working with different musical projects between flamenco and jazz.
