Foundation Grant Writing
Foundation Grant Writing is an ESC workshop for nonprofit staff and board members on how to prepare foundation funding requests. The workshop will be presented by ESC Consultant Bobbi Hapgood.

This is an introduction to all aspects of preparing foundation funding requests that stand out and get funded.
Bobbi Hapgood brings her years of experience in development, philanthropy and nonprofit management to this lively session that starts with the basics:
Understanding the grant cycle
Deciding what to ask for and why
Researching and creating a database of prospects
Initiating funder relationships
Attendees will then learn how to develop the proposal it is not just about writing, it includes:
Understanding the context for foundation staff and trustees so that your proposal stands out or at least does not annoy
Collecting information and data
Preparing the statement of need telling the story of your organization and how your project will change the world
Developing components of the proposal
Preparing the project budget
Submitting the proposal and preparing for the site visit
This fast-paced session winds up with tips about what to do when you receive the award notification and contract and how to follow up on your good fortune so that you will be funded again.
Bobbi Hapgood is a nonprofit strategist who has spent the majority of her professional life working on organizational planning, fundraising, philanthropic leadership and board governance.
Bobbi has served as program director for Voices & Choices of the Central Carolinas, as a consultant for Rachels Network, as communications and development director for the Center for Child and Family Health and as the executive director of the North Carolina Network of Grantmakers. She currently works as a consultant for nonprofits and foundations.
As a volunteer, Bobbi has served for over 25 years on Educational Foundation of Americas board and is currently serving as board president. In addition, she is serving on the advisory board for Chapel Hill-Carrboro Youth Forward, the advisory council for the National Center for Family Philanthropy, the advisory board for UNC Playmakers Repertory Company and the presidents council for the North Carolina Coastal Federation. She is also a volunteer with the Blue Ribbon Mentor Advocate Program and Executive Service Corps of the Triangle (ESC).
Bobbi earned her bachelors degree in environmental biology and management from the University of California, Davis. She also holds a masters degree in environmental management from Duke University.
