Grammy award winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist Tom Chapin will be performing a Tribute Concert in honor of Pete Seegers 100th birthday. The concert will be hosted by the Warwick Historical Society, on Sun., Apr. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Old School Baptist Meeting House, located at 25 High St. in Warwick.
Proceeds will benefit the Warwick Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Concert goers will enjoy Toms infectious songs, sterling musicianship and personal warmth as well as the opening acts at the upcoming show.
In addition to Tom Chapin, the event will feature two opening acts as special guests. The musical trio of Stuart Markus, Hillary Foxsong, and Gerry McKeven, known as Gathering Time will entertain the crowd with their strong roots in traditional folk music as well as '60s and '70s folk-rock.
Also entertaining the audience will be the Chapin Sisters consisting of siblings, Abigail and Lily Chapin. The Chapin Sisters carry on a proud family musical legacy. Their legendary late uncle, Harry Chapin, was a musical artist best known for his 1974 hit song, Cats in the Cradle. They will open the show for their father, Tom, a three-time Grammy award winner, who is the headliner of the event.
In a career that spans six decades and 26 albums, Tom has covered an incredible amount of creative ground. The recording artist and concert performer has acted on Broadway as well as worked extensively in television, radio and film. As a music-maker, he has maintained two long and productive parallel careers, both as a highly respected contemporary folk artist and as a pioneer in the field of children's music.
In both roles, Tom has established a reputation for insightful, heartfelt songcraft and effortlessly charismatic live performances. He continues to engage the hearts, minds and imaginations of young listeners with witty, life-affirming original songs delivered in a sophisticated array of musical styles.
Tom began performing professionally as a teenager in the early 1960s, playing in Greenwich Village folk clubs alongside his siblings, Harry and Steve, as The Chapin Brothers. He launched his solo recording career in 1976 with the album, Life Is Like That. It was the first of a string of albums that further established his reputation as both a gifted storyteller and a natural entertainer.
The concert will take place in an historic former church building built in 1810 and maintained by the Warwick Historical Society.
