Our Mission:
[insert dance company title here] innovates by creating contemporary dance performances that are minimalist in structure while virtuosic and dynamic in movement and vision. Through nuanced and specific explorations,[idcth] stirs conversation, delves into conceptual work and seeks to reach greater understanding of human existence.
Who We Are:
[insert dance company title here] was founded in 2018 by Artistic Director Alden Henderson. After working as a freelance dancer with several companies in New York City, Alden was compelled to establish a company of his own with like-minded individuals. His aesthetic combines aspects of post-modernism and contemporary ballet in an exhilarating and simultaneously relatable fashion. Alden is dedicated to the creation of works that are not conventionally digestible or beautiful, favoring instead work that is intellectually invigorating and somatically variable.
"I'm beginning to think there's a whole segment of the population, no matter what you told them, they wouldn't rise to it. They're not interested in the kind of dance that isn't entertaining." ~ Trisha Brown
[insert dance company title here] maintains the goal of presenting dance in its purest form without ornamentation. Titles, musical composition, program notes, etc are subjective and may color an audience's experience of a work prior to their, well, experience of the work. To avoid this type of predicated bias, [idcth] adheres to the classical music composition model for titling its works. For instance, duet 1 en pointe. The use of music and program notes is similarly mechanical, existing to serve the sole purpose of introducing without instructing. It is [idcth]'s goal that the dance speak for itself.
About the Artists:
Manon Hallay was born in France. She began dancing at the Conservatoire de Tarbes and, at thirteen, moved to Bordeaux where she entered a pre-professional course. Two years later she was accepted to the Royal Ballet School of Antwerpen and had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Micheal Shannon. She moved to New York five years ago to attend the Alvin Ailey school as a scholarship student. She now dances for several dance companies including Amanda Selwyn Dance Theater, Smashwork, and Les Ballets Nomades.
Kirsten Reynolds of Harbor Springs, Michigan, began her early training in classical ballet under Heather Raue. She graduated in 2017 with BFA degrees in Ballet and Modern Dance from Texas Christian University's School for Classical and Contemporary Dance. Since moving to NYC, Kirsten has performed with Rachel Thorne Germond Performance Collage, [insert dance company title here], Ninja Ballet, Nuo Spiritual Dance Company and appeared in Jacqulyn Buglisi's Table of Silence and Regina Opera's Aida and Hansel and Gretel in addition to working as a freelance dancer. Kirsten is excited to join [insert dance company title here] as a founding member.
Alden Henderson is an NYC-based dancer and choreographer currently performing with VISIONS Contemporary Ballet, Rovaco Dance Company, and [insert dance company title here]. Alden graduated from Texas Christian University in 2017 with BFAs in Ballet and Modern Dance and was inspired by postmodernism and contemporary ballet under the mentorship of Nina Martin. In his choreographic work, Alden creates and stages pieces within his company, [insert dance company title here], and has presented work alongside Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre and Golden Hour Dance. His fascination with postmodernism and contemporary ballet informs his choreographic choices, making his work technical, virtuosic, and nuanced.
