"Heirlooms are a luxury. My family has none."
"Heirlooms" is the first of several installations by SPRNG VLVT that aim to unpack the coexistence of isolation and celebration of culture that is synonymous with the American immigrant experience. Multidisciplinary artist Ankita Mishra has created 5 "shrines" honoring moments of solitude using found objects and childhood ephemera from the late 90s that are specific to her own South Asian background. Mishra is constantly trying finding ways to confront identity and chronicle lost stories in her work.
The evening will begin with a poetry ceremony and will culminate in a set of songs from her upcoming debut EP. This installation coincides with the Hindu holiday Holi. Refreshments and sweets will be available for purchase.
