Beyond Massages and Mindfulness: Skills for Self and Community Care
Talk of self-care is everywhere. Its become a trend throughout nonprofit and activist communities. But what is it, really? And does it only apply to a narrow set of people with the privileges and resources for monthly massages and unlimited supplies of fresh-pressed juice? What if my work, activism, identities, or life situation is making taking care of myself harder?
This workshop is for anyone whos struggled with a realistic definition of self-care that fits who we are and how we work. Its also for anyone who feels like self-care has been used to blame individuals for the structural stressors of our work or lives. Self-care is only one aspect of individual and organizational wellness. Looking at the individual, relational, and systemic stressors present in our work or activism allows us to look for solutions that go beyond massages and mindfulness to address all aspects of healing and wellness.
In this workshop, we will: * Learn specific tools to address burnout on the individual, relational, and organizational level. * Create a basic plan to assess individual and organizational burnout * Build a toolkit of acute self-care tools for use in high-stress situations * Identify 3 strategies to implement for workplace/community resilience over the next 3 months
