Event
Platinum "XVII" Dinner by Yakima Enological Society
PLATINUM XVII
Are you starting to tire of the winter and yearn for spring? Well, we have the solution. Start planning now for the 17th Annual Platinum Dinner to be held on April 13, 2019 at the Yakima Country Club starting at 5:30 pm. Hopefully our earlier starting time of 5:30 will allow for a more leisurely event.
Some of the highlights of this years event:
We will be featuring twenty-three wines all of which won Platinum awards from the 2018 judging. We will also have twenty seven winemakers/representatives attending our event this year from Oregon, Canada and Washington.
Of the participating wineries this year, ten will be first timers who have not been involved in our prior dinners. They include Fly Rod Cellars, Tertula Cellars, Amavi Cellars, Stave and Stone Wine Estates, Aluel Cellars, Le Chateau Winery (Claar Group), Longship Cellars, Stottle, Madsen Family Cellars and Wilridge.
The highest rated wine out of the 654 that were judged was Aluel Cellars 2014 Coat of Arms. This Bordeaux style red was judged Best of the Best and will be poured during our dinner along with two other Double Platinum winners from C.C. Jentsch (Canada) and Chateau Walla Walla.
We will be serving nine wines, all Platinum winners, during the Winemakers Reception along with passed appetizers of Liver Pate with Lobster Medallion, Quail Deviled Egg with Sturgeon Roe and a Lamb Beggar Bag. The new chef at the Yakima Country Club, Charles Reed, has put together a menu that will impress even the most gourmet palate. He has added a sorbet to cleanse the palate and a cheese plate just prior to the desert. More on the menu will follow in next months newsletter.
During the course of the evening we will have both a silent auction during the reception with beautiful baskets and award winning wine lots by Bev Warren and a live auction of wines, dinners and the opportunity to attend and participate in the 2019 Platinum judging. Proceeds from this event continue to go for wine industry scholarships at Yakima Valley Community College, WSU Tri Cities School of Enology, the wine program at Walla Walla Community College, Okanagan Community College in British Columbia and the wine program at Umpqua College on Oregon.
We are currently finalizing hotel discounts for our out of town guests. Limo service will also be available. More information will be in the next newsletter.
The ticket cost this year is $150 per person if the tickets are purchased prior to March 31st. After the 31st the cost will go to $165 per person. A reservation form is included to this newsletter for your convenience. The best and easiest way to get tickets is to go to Brown Paper Tickets, click on search events, enter Y.E.S. and use your credit card. Please note that all auction items must be paid for with cash or checks only as YES is unable to accept credit cards at the Yakima Country Club.
This event is only open to members of the Yakima Enological Society, the Yakima County Club and any invited guests. Last years event sold out early so dont delay if you are planning to attend and enjoy one of the premier wine events in the Pacific Northwest.
