The annual Cornish Winter New Works Festival returns with three exciting new play staged readings from 4th year playwrights from the Original Works track of the Theater Department. Join us for THREE exciting new stories, THREE debut playwrights, and directed by THREE of Seattles finest Directors: Katjana Vadeboncoeur, Claudine Nako, and Michael Place.

A Willow and No Window by Sienna Méndez directed by Katjana Vadeboncoeur
(February 8th and 9th):
Miriam, age 16, learns the history of the mysterious letters she finds in her Grandmothers home. As she digs deeper and deeper into a love story told through letters, her familys history reveals itself before her eyes. A family divided by a longing for something so close you could almost taste it is slowly reminded of the truth of their story. Three generations of women relate to each other through Gertrude Stein and unanswered questions. Time unravels in a tangled web of red string as Miriam attempts to tie the ends together.

Descendants by Wilysha Walton directed by Claudine Nako
(February 15th and 16th):
In 1940s Tennessee, a young black girl with an imagination larger than her little country town searches for truth about her past to determine her future. But what monsters will stop her in the journey to make her dreams a reality?

The Pigs in Trenchcoats by Anu Brown directed by Michael Place
(February 22nd and 23rd):
It is December 1999, and two girls: Fran and Junie brace themselves for what might be the end of the world. Due to the conspiracy of Y2K, both girls plot to commit a double suicide by the time the clock strikes midnight bringing in the year 2000! As we know it, the world does not end, but for someone it might. When the suicide goes awry, someone may have to make a decision, one that may change them forever. The Pigs in Trenchcoats is a one act play exploring sexuality, feminism, politics, homophobia, and adolescence. Think Romeo and Juliet, without a Romeo, and an additional Juliet. Two Juliets who think the world might end, and maybe even rightfully so.
