JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival - Leaps of Faiths
When a Jew and a Catholic fall in love, they may have grown up looking at the other faith as over there or the other but then discover thats no longer possible. As they navigate their differences, this film highlights a choice some make: to raise children sharing both their Jewish and Catholic traditions. Its controversial: some fear that kids will be confused and torn between mom and dad. In the Jewish community there are concerns about Messianic Judaism and the future of Jews in America. But other clergy, parents and their children see new possibilities and have pioneered interfaith religious education programs in Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. Leaps of Faiths doesnt try to resolve controversy. Instead, it documents the choices some families make and how their kids turn out, first as 8th graders and then as young adults. Relationships can be messy, especially when love tests faith and faith tests love. But in a world that is increasingly diverse, blended, and multi-cultural, love always finds a way.
Join David Kovacs and Steve Ordower, Co-producers, Rabbi Ari Moffic Fr. John Cusick for a Q&A following the film.
