JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival - The Last
The Last is a contemporary love story about four generations of a Jewish family in New York and the cataclysmic turmoil that ensues following a harrowing confession by a Holocaust survivor, the matriarch of the family. There is no question in my mind that The Last, anchored by its towering performance by 90-year-old, Jewish actress Rebecca Schull and 2016 Tony Award-winning actor Reed Birney, would be an Event, capital "E", and a much-discussed contribution to the festival's lineup. And, yes, as you might have surmised, I myself am Jewish. This is my seventh feature; my only previous film that shared a Jewish theme was the 2006 Sundance Film Festival Dramatic Competition selection, Flannel Pajamas. It resulted in the humbling rave reviews attached. The Last is a better film.
Join filmmaker, Jeff Lipsky, for a Q&A following the screening.
