The 5 Boro Play Festival
The 5 Boro Play Festival is a two-day event of theatrical staged readings one-act plays. This festival was created to highlight the writers who were born and raised in NYC. Each playwright and play has gone through a small developmental process with Fail Better.NYC, a writers support group, and a rehearsal process with actors where they get to further develop their plays.
DAY 1 featuring plays from Rebekah Lopatto and Destiny Collins November 16th at 7 PM runtime: 1 hour and 30 minutes After Party following the performance Pantograph Gates Written by Rebekah Lopatto Director by Amalia Oliva Rojas After getting dumped by Haru, Maya is ready to move on until Haru leaves her a cryptic voicemail intoning she wants to get back together, making Maya reconsider. And Edith, well Edith just has a lot of strong opinions about that. The 7 Deadliest Duties written and directed by Destiny Collins 7 Deadliest Duties is a screenplay that tells the story of seven teenagers, all symbolizing one of the seven deadliest sins, burdened with the inability to be domesticated. Though their journeys and motives differ, they find themselves with intertwined fates. Each of these teenagers want nothing more than to return to their normal lives, but being casted away because of public misconceptions isnt making that easy. Luckily for them, they need a way out and she needs a way to the top. DAY 2 featuring plays from Bryan M. Davis, Marija Pantovic and Leslie Gideon November 17th at 7 PM runtime: 1 hour and 30 minutes After Party following the performances Lex Talionis by Bryan M. Davis Directed by Jose Reyes How far are you willing to go to damn or undamn your soul? A question that has plagued the mind of Edward Matthews, a man bent on revenge after a personal tragedy cost the life of a loved one. With the person behind the tragedy set in his sights and confronted with a hefty decision, how far is Edward willing to go to gain his revenge while trying not to damn his own soul in the process? GREASE by Marija Pantovic Directed by John Defilippo The daily ceaseless plight of a fast-food worker is nothing to make light of. With an incalculable vast expanse of greasy burgers, soggy fries, crispy chicken nuggets and ever-flowing fountain soda ordered, any sane person would break from the repetitive nature of the job. The workers at this fast-food joint struggle to maintain their wits through what seems like an eternal void of grease. The Promotion written and directed by Leslie Gideon An ambitious but world-weary businesswoman tries to stand her ground while training a naive intern as her superior continually denies her career advancement and even basic respect.
