Embracing Complexity Workshop
New York City Nov 30-Dec 2, 2018 Fri and Sun: 10am-5:30pm, Sat: 9am-3pm Fee: $275 Leaders: Chantal Bilodeau and Julia Levine
The Embracing Complexity Workshop is open to artists, activists, scientists, and educators who want to explore how complexity may be expressed in artistic works that engage with climate change. All disciplines are welcome and individuals from traditionally underrepresented populations and communities are encouraged to attend. The Arctic Cycle promotes an inclusive environment that supports diverse perspectives.
During this 3-day intensive, well explore the meaning and possible expressions of complexity through movement, conversation, and creative exercises. Well wrestle with questions that have no easy answers, imagine ways to hold conflicting ideas together, and start to make work that is reflective of our modern societies and their messy paradoxes. Guest speakers from the arts and the sciences will provide additional perspectives and help us formulate strategies to deepen our work.
All sessions will take place at The Artist Co-op, 500 W 52nd St #3W, New York. Limited to 20 participants. Availability is on a first come, first serve basis. Two work-study positions are available to students or recent graduates who identify as people of color.
