RE-Center Race & Equity in Education believes that together, we can build a just and equitable world where everyone has what they need to grow and thrive. We work in partnership with youth, families, schools and communities to facilitate nurturing spaces where people can understand and challenge systemic racism and oppression.
The Equity in Education workshops are a great way to get "enrolled into our vision for equity." We welcome educators, administrators, students, parents/families, and any other community member interested in exploring what it takes to eliminate the affects of racism and other forms of oppression within our schools and communities.
Together we'll accomplish the following goals: 1. Introduce the Equity in Practice Guidelines 2. Introduce the Co-Creating Equity Shifts 3. Explore individual and social identities 4. Experience restorative justice practices 5. Engage in collaborative problem solving for equity
There are 3 different workshop formats and each are offered multiple times throughout the year.
INTRO TO EQUITY (2-hour workshop) COST: $50 per person In this brief, 2-hour workshop participants will be led through the Equity in Practice Guidelines and the 5 Co-Creating Equity Shifts. This workshop is designed as an introduction to the basic principles of Equity in Education. - November 14, 2018 - January 1, 2019 - May 8, 2019
EQUITY IN PRACTICE (7-hour workshop) COST: $150 per person This day-long workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to engage more deeply with the Equity in Practice Guidelines and the 5 Co-Creating Equity Shifts. This workshop will help participants explore their own identity and process of socialization because this is the basis of the work to ensure equity in any system. We are all a confluence of various identities, both target (marginalized) and non-target (privileged), and these identities are constantly at play in all of our interpersonal interactions with students, parents/caregivers, and other staff members. In exploring identity and intersectionality, participants learn how they can individually be a part of creating an equitable learning environment from their own unique standpoint. - January 28, 2019 - March 25, 2019 - May 18, 2019
EQUITY INTENSIVE (14-hour workshop; 2 consecutive days) COST: $275 per person On the first day of this 2-day workshop participants will engage with the Equity in Practice Guidelines, the 5 Co-Creating Equity Shifts, and explore their own identity and process of socialization because this is the basis of the work to ensure equity in any system. We are all a confluence of various identities--both target (marginalized) and non-target (privileged)--and these identities are constantly at play in all of our interpersonal interactions with students, parents/caregivers, and other staff members. In exploring identity and intersectionality, participants learn how they can individually be a part of creating an equitable learning environment from their own unique standpoint.
On the second day, participants will work together in teams to present, troubleshoot, and action plan around a specific equity challenge they are experiencing within their own school or district. Teams will be led through the Collaborative Problem Solving for Equity process to create a unique action plan to meet the needs in their own context. Teams will be provided with resources and coaching from their peers and the RE-Center program team.
NOTE: Participants must register in pairs or teams of 2-8 for the 2-Day Equity Intensive - November 26 & 27, 2018 - February 25 & 26, 2019 - April 22 & 23, 2019
