VIRGINIA SCHENCK'S Winter Solstice Concert:

Embracing the dark and allowing the light.

I'm a seasonal soul, a noter of nature, and a ritualist.
Seasons bring varying songs from my heart.
As we enter the winter season, we actually have already made it through the darkest night.
For me, that Is something to celebrate!

A Winter Solstice will find me singing more sensitive songs of a planetary nature, yet shouting with joy the coming of Winter Light and all that the year has brought. We'll take a journey under the night sky, dancing with the moon, stars, and planets. What better place to celebrate than under the domed sky of Fernbank Planetarium, the 3rd largest in the United States.

World jazz trio, Free Planet Radio, of Asheville, NC, joins me this night, adding their sensibilities to our magic carpet ride through the night sky! Grammy winner Eliot Wadopian leaps effortlessly between rhythm and melody on electric and string basses has been performing the Winter Solstice with the Paul Winter Consort for about 30 years at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in NY. River Guerguerian plays an extensive array of global percussion instruments including Middle Eastern frame drums and doumbek, the Indian kanjira, African shakers, and Western drum set. Chris Rosser explores melody on the 17-stringed Indian dotar, Turkish cumbus oud, guitar, piano, and melodica.
