The program includes virtuosic works by Bernstein, Rachmaninoff, Granados/Kreisler, Sarasate, Wieniawski, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Paganini, Beethoven and Mozart. The concert will last about 2 hours including the intermission.
Award winning Polish-born concert violinist Kinga Augustyn currently lives in New York. She has been described as "stylish and vibrant" (The Strad Magazine), and "beyond amazing, one hell of a violinist!" (The Fanfare Magazine). She has soloed with orchestras in the United States, Europe and Asia. Among these are Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin, the Magdeburg, the Wroclaw Philharmonic, the Queens and the Rogue Valley Symphony orchestras. As a recitalist or chamber musician, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Chicago Cultural Center. Augustyn's critically acclaimed recordings include Telemann 12 Fantasias for Solo Violin as well as Mendelssohn and Bruch Violin Concerti with the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jakub Klecker. Ms. Augustyn has won international awards, including First Prizes at the Alexander & Buono International String Competition, the Artist International Presentations, and the J.S. Bach String Competition (Poland). Kinga Augustyn studied at the Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay, Cho-Liang Lin, and Naoko Tanaka, and at Stony Brook University with Philip Setzer and Pamela Frank.
Martin Majkut is starting his 9th season as Music Director of the Rogue Valley Symphony. Last year's celebration of the RVS's 50th season, with five world premieres and a star-studded line-up of soloists, earned him an invitation to the League of American Orchestras 73rd National Conference as a featured presenter in the Frontiers: Risk & Reward session. Martin is also in his 2nd season as Music Director of the Queens Symphony Orchestra (NY) which performs in multiple locations for the most ethnically diverse community in the world. This year, Martin returns to the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia to conduct a special program on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his alma mater. A great fondness for chamber music makes Martin return periodically to piano playing. He performed with Kinga previously in New York, California and in the Rogue Valley.
