The Great Big Challah Bake
Columbus Torah Academy
Columbus, OH
Share this event:

Feeling the dough between your fingers as you knead it just so. Seeing how it rises, takes a form, takes a shape (of sorts). Hearing the blessing spoken, so loud and so clear. Smelling the scent that beckons in Shabbat and embraces us whole. Tasting the bread of our people, our nation, our day. And smiling because you know the whole world is in it together.

Stop doing and start being.

The Shabbat Project is a unique, international grassroots Jewish identity movement that unites all Jews to keep one full Shabbat together. The idea originated in South Africa, where the majority of the country's diverse Jewish community joined together to observe a single Shabbat, most for the first time in their lives.

The International Shabbat Project will take place the weekend of October 25-27, 2018 in more than 1,400 cities and 100 countries around the globe. Last year, over one million Jews worldwide participated in The Shabbat Project weekend events.

On October 25-27, 2018 Columbus will come together to experience Shabbat like never before. The Shabbat Project 614 (formerly known as 614 Shabbat) is part of the worldwide effort to celebrate Shabbat together.

New to Columbus this year is the Great Big Challah Bake. We will be joined by Eve Levy from Portland, OR as she entertains us while we perform the mitzvah of challah making. We are inviting the entire community to participate in this event on Thursday, October 25. We will celebrate at one location and will join the millions of other Jews around the world.

We are expecting hundreds at Columbus Torah Academy to make the dough and braid the challah and celebrate the beauty of Shabbat. You will go home with two wonderful Kosher challahs to bake in your oven for Shabbat.

ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BY OCTOBER 23. DUE TO SECURITY REASONS, THERE WILL BE NO SALES AT THE DOOR. ALL NAMES OF ATTENDEES SITTING AT A TABLE MUST BE GIVEN BY OCT. 23. YOU CAN USE YOUR NAME FOR ALL 10 SPOTS AS LONG AS WE HAVE THE CORRECT NAMES BY OCT. 23.

GLUTEN-FREE DOUGH WILL BE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. NOTE REQUEST IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE AREA. CHILDREN 12 AND OVER ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

THERE WILL BE FREE VALET SERVICE AVAILABLE.

Space is limited. Register early! Doors open at 6:30 pm. Program begins at 7 pm.

All tickets are non-refundable but may be exchanged with another person. Free parking. Handicap Accessible. Please email us if you would like a scholarship to cover your ticket purchase.
