Berkeley Arts & Letters presents P. W. Singer / LikeWar: The Weaponization of Social Media
PLEASE NOTE: Due to an unforeseen and unavoidable change of travel plans, this event has been cancelled. We are very sorry for any inconvenience and hope to host P. W. Singer in the future.

Social media has been weaponized, as state hackers and rogue terrorists have seized upon Twitter and Facebook to create chaos and destruction. This urgent report is required reading, from defense experts P.W. Singer and Emerson T. Brooking.

LikeWar: The Weaponization of Social Media is an ambitious and thoroughly researched book by in-demand defense strategist P.W. Singer (Ghost Fleet; Wired for War) and Emerson Brooking that answers big questions like, why do things go viral online? What really happened in Russian operations vs US politics? How do online bots work? What is the future of online war and AI? And so much more. The book highlights how social media has changed war and politics, and, in turn, war and politics has changed social media. It uses a mix of the latest research and interviews to reveal whats behind everything from how Trump uses Twitter to the rise of ISIS and Taylor Swift, from Israel's web warrior units to Silicon Valley's new role in battle, and what all these trends mean for the future of not just war, but everything online.
