How to Start and Maintain a Nonprofit Organization
Understand the legal and practical considerations of running a nonprofit. This is a live workshop with limited registration to allow time for questions and individual attention. The $65 price of the workshop includes refreshments and a copy of the How to Start a Nonprofit in Maryland manual.
Who Should Attend?
- Community leaders who are currently members of or plan to start a small nonprofit organization
- Any organization seeking legal assistance through Community Law Center with an issue related to organizational formation, attendance at the workshop is required before the organization will be assigned an attorney through Community Law Center.
What will be covered?
- Starting a nonprofit organization;
- Maintaining your organization's legal status;
- Writing and revising articles of incorporation and bylaws; applying for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status
Cost to Attend the Workshop:
The cost for one person to attend the workshop is $65, which includes refreshments and a copy of the How to Start a Nonprofit Organization in Maryland manual. Each attendee must preregister and pay the fee.
Registration and Waitlist:
Workshops are intentionally small to allow for group discussion and provide time for individual questions.
The workshops regularly fill up, and registration is closed once the workshop is at capacity. If registration is full you may sign up for the waitlist. If a space opens up, you will be notified and will have limited time to register for the open space. Please call Ingrid Hitchens at 410-366-0922 if you have any questions about the waitlist.
Cancellations and Refunds:
No requests for refunds will be granted within 48 hours of the workshop. If you, or your designee, do not attend the workshop you signed up for, the fee is non-refundable. We do encourage you to send another member of your organization in your place if you are unable to attend.
If the workshop is cancelled due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a notification will be sent to all registrants at the email address provided upon registration by 3:00pm the day of the workshop and refunds will be issued.
Special Note for Attorneys Who Wish to Provide Free Legal Services to Nonprofits:
