UAB Medicine Addiction Symposium
Our speakers include: Dr. John Kelly Stigma and Addiction Dr. Kelly is the Elizabeth R. Spallin Associate Professor of Psychiatry in Addiction Medicine at Harvard Medical School-the first endowed professor in addiction medicine at Harvard. He is also the founder and Director of the Recovery Research Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the Program Director of the Addiction Recovery Management Service (ARMS) and the Associate Director of the Center for Addiction Medicine at MGH. Dr. Jared Dempsey Neurobiology for addictionThe Case for Treating Addiction As A Chronic Illness Dr. Dempsey is the Chief Scientist at the Foundation for Recovery Initiatives and the Vice President of NLW Partner, LLC. His research has focused on a wide variety of addictive substances including alcohol, cocaine, and nicotine. His research incorporates various physiological and neurological assessment techniques. Recent work has focused on developing a biological marker of addiction recovery. Preliminary results for this model were published in 2015 in the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence. Dr. Kitty Harris Recovery and Resilience- Dr. Kitty Harris Wilkes serves as Executive Partner for Collegiate Recovery with Summit BHC, a network of leading behavioral health centers throughout the United States. She also serves as President of the Foundation for Recovery Initiatives, which is dedicated to consulting, education, science and research for addiction recovery. And she is the President of NLW Partners, LLC, a company supporting and promoting addiction treatment and recovery. Dr. Harris Wilkes is a Professor Emeritus at Texas Tech University. Dr. Harris Wilkes is the author of Women and Recovery-Finding Hope, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and co-editor of Substance Abuse Recovery in College, published by Springer.
