Nourishment
Gwendolyn & Guests presents the 3nd iteration of the Nourishment series this spring 2018! On May 24-26th, 2018, Nourishment returns to Denver with its latest production centered on the question: What does it feel like to grow up? Set in a historic home in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, the immersive show uses dance, live music, storytelling, theater, set design, food and drinks to give the audience a full sensory experience.

In this chapter of Nourishment the audience is pulled into a non-linear world of aging as the cast shares experiences of what it feels like to be a child, to be a teenager, and to enter adulthood. The performance explores what dreams feel like and how reality unfolds. What does it mean to take responsibility, to fulfill expectations, and to feel disillusionment? How does this vast range of joys and struggles manifest itself within us? Is there ever a point when we stop growing up? Nourishment invites the audience to ponder these sorts of questions throughout the show while experiencing each performers inner world and perspective.

To further the all-sensory experience, attendees will enjoy a 6-course menu of small bites paired with wines/beer/spirits (included in ticket price). Nourishment is committed to the theme of locality, and has teamed up with numerous local Denver/Boulder purveyors to honor our commitment of using companies who are local, organic, and working with sustainability.

Nourishment is directed by Gwendolyn Gussman, a Denver-bred, NYC-based choreographer and dancer who currently works with Sean Curran Company, Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance, Heidi Latsky Dance, Vanessa Walters Ripening, Roger C. Jeffreys Subtle Changes Inc., and has choreographed for Denver School of the Arts, The Warp Trio, The Dance Collective, and more. Past company credits include dancing for Shen Wei Dance Arts and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. A graduate of NYUs Tisch School of the Arts, Gwendolyn founded Gwendolyn&Guests in 2015 and premiered the first iteration of Nourishment (what does it feel like to fall in love?) at the Fleming Mansion in 2016 in Denver, CO. Critics deemed it profoundly tender and more than a performance piece with live music, visual projection, and audience participation (Presenting Denver). Gwendolyn&Guests premiered their second iteration of Nourishment (what does it feel like to grow up) to sold-out audiences at an 1800s carriage house, Planta Baja, in Brooklyn September 2017. Gwendolyn&Guests is thrilled to bring their latest Nourishment production in their hometown of Denver this May 2018!

Gwendolyn&Guests is a mixed group of artists primarily born and raised in Colorado, now living and working nationally and internationally. Cast/Collaborating Artists for this production: Anna Driftmier, Mara Driscoll, Nico Gonzales, Gwendolyn Gussman, Aja Jackson, Jett Kwong Kelly, Xenia Mansour, Kevin Quinn Marchman, and Trevor New.

"Nourishment is a show that is far easier to experience than to describe. Its about the stories that make us, the stories that we dont necessarily tell but which hum, unspoken, in our bones. Its not any one persons narrative; growing up is different for everyone, after all. But its a collage, a constellation, that traces a kernel of truth, that reminds us that regardless, were all swept up in the passing of time, in our stories. Were all just figuring it out."
