The Leslie Scalapino Award: Finalist Readings Festival
Michelle Sui, Lisa Langford, and Kelly Malone, finalists for the 2016-17 Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women Performance Writers, will present staged readings of their works, featuring full casts, at Theaterlab on April 8th, 2018.

Doors will open at 330PM for back-to-back readings of all three works, with an intermission in between.

Author Bios:

Michelle Sui is a Chinese-born multidisciplinary artist, performer, composer, choreographer, and director. She creates immersive theatrical compositions integrating theatre, music, dance, film, and interactive/new media and technology. Her multimedia works have been presented in Germany, Italy, the Republic of Georgia, and the U.S. Much of her work exists at the intersection of forms and draws upon body as geography, language in translation, and the politics and landscapes of femininity.

Lisa Langford, a graduate of Harvard University, is an actress and playwright.  Her plays have appeared at Cleveland Public Theatre (ICOGNEGRO, THE NEGRO PERKINS, THE BOMB and, most recently THE ART OF LONGING) and convergence-continuum (OUTSIDE/IN: THE FATTENING HOUSE and THE SPLIT SHOW). She received her MFA from Cleveland State and is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Kelly Malone is a language artist and has performed and published her work in Aotearoa (New Zealand) Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, North America, and the UK. Reign of contexti: a libretto was a finalist for the Leslie Scalapino Award, 2016-17. The play is a visual, percussive, and tactile performance. Scored for writing, cut and woven, with the breath as text in transliteration, the libretto re-scores how poetics and the politics of language are enacted.
