July 30, 1945. The U.S.S. Indianapolis is hit by two Japanese torpedoes, killing three-hundred sailors in the initial blast and leaving nine-hundred men to drift helplessly in the Pacific Ocean. The survivors are discovered almost five days later. When rescue ships and planes finally arrive, they witness hundreds of large shadows lurking around small groups of broken men drifting aimlessly in the current. Only three-hundred and twenty-one sailors are pulled from the blood-filled water.

IN THE SOUNDLESS AWE is a remount of the 2017 Chicago Joseph Jefferson Recommended play that takes place twenty-two years later, finding Charles Butler McVay III (film & tvs Jason Narvy), the wrongly court-martialed and disgraced Captain of the U.S.S. Indianapolis, in his haunting final moments.

The performances will run July 19-22, 2018 at the IndyFringe Theatre located at 719 E. St. Clair St., Indianapolis IN 46202. The show runs Thursday, July 19 at 7:30pm, Friday, July 20th at Noon and 7:30pm, Saturday, July 21st at 1:30pm, and Sunday, July 22nd at Noon. You can go to www.indyfringe.org for more information. You may also call 708-308-0706 or email us at info@saltboxtheatre.org as well. The show runs 90 minutes with no intermission.

All tickets are $10. Half of these ticket sales and donations will go directly to the USS Indianapolis Survivors Organization for Saltbox Theatre Collective views the remounting of this play as a service to those that served and the city of Indianapolis. Saltbox Theatre Collective is proud to be part of the USS Indianapolis Survivors Reunion Weekend 2018. It is a true honor.
