Estigarribia - Jost - Furbee - Johnson in concert
Doors and bar open at 7:30pm, showtime: 8pm

Tango finds new life when a bay area favorite meets world class talent from Buenos Aires

Jost and Estigarríbia present an evening of tango for piano and bandoneón, as well as solo pieces.  From classics like El Choclo to original compositions, their collaborations bring new life into the heart of tango-- tradition layered with fresh harmonies and perspectives; stories of life, love, and loss articulated through the hands and minds of two great talents.

Violinist Erin Furbee and Bassist Jeff Johnson from the Oregon Symphony join the exceptional duo to perform two tangos by Astor Piazzolla.

Estigarríbia's 2018 album (just Gardel-nominated!) and book of arrangements for piano solo will be available at the concert.

Estigarríbia, the artist with a mission.
The ascent to a new pinnacle in tango music evolution began when Pablo Estigarribia, a classically trained virtuoso pianist discovered tango in 2005.  A native of Argentina, Pablo is privileged to have studied, composed, arranged, and performed with legendary tango figures such as Emilio Balcarce, Horacio Cabarcos, Maria Graña, and Victor Lavallén.  He was awarded the prestigious Gardel Prize in 2015 for Best Tango Recording by a New Artist and is widely recognized as one of the best tango musicians of his generation!  He is a member of Trio Lavallen-Cabarcos-Estigarribia, Orquesta Municipal de Tango de Lomas de Zamora, Teatro Porteño, and La Seleccion Nacional.

What started as a young boys fascination with pushing buttons has grown into a lifelong journey for Adrian Jost. Born on the French Riviera, he first studied the accordion and bayan with Tschannen and came to the U.S. to pursue his Masters degree at Northwestern University.  It was there that Adrian started the transition to the iconic bandoneón.  He co-founded Trio Garufa, a popular San Francisco-based ensemble dedicated to performing Argentine tango and folklore music which has enthralled audiences in Argentina, Colombia, Canada, Europe and the US.  With Portland-based Tango Pacifico whose violinist and bassist will join the duo for this concert, he recorded the Piazzolla album Revirado.

In the informal video shown here, Pablo plays his own arrangement of Lo que vendrá, a piece that Piazzolla wrote and named what is to come because that is the piece where he introduces changes in the structure, harmony and rhythm of tango that became the tango nuevo" of Astor Piazzolla.

General Admission is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
If you are able to, you can chose to donate more to support the artists.  We opted for general admission to be affordable so everyone is able to attend.  Thank you!
