Film Screening and Tasting
Join us for a free screening of the documentary "Deeply Rooted" exploring the life and work of Louisiana farmer John Coykendall, a renowned heirloom seed saver, master gardener at Blackberry Farm, and a champion of biodiversity and the Ark of Taste. For decades, he has recorded the growing techniques, recipes, and folktales of farmers and gardeners in more than 80 beautifully illustrated journals. He documents ancestral growing practices and saves seeds to share with future generations while there is still time.
Accompanying the film, we will have red beans and rice made from heritage Louisiana red beans. Soft drinks will also be provided.
The film (55 min.) was produced by Christina Melton for Louisiana Public Broadcasting and distributed in the fall of 2017 by American Public Television.
This event is free and open to the public.
