Chapter andWorse
An erudite music sketch comedy, the show recalls Beyond the Fringe, Mel Brooks and Monty Python. It consists of seven scenes in wildly different settings. The music is by well-known collaborators such as Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Puccini. A good-natured spoof of music and literature, the show is funniest for those who are well-read, but has plenty of humor for all. It follows the travails of Fenster Blande, a mild-manned sort who is desperate for the love of Chava Niceday, a pretty bank teller. Foiled by a handsome rogue, he falls into a dreamlike state, where he continues to be thwarted in Shakespearean England, the Grand Opera, the Great Depression and Prehistoric Africa. He achieves his apotheosis in the ballet, a broad parody of Swan Lake.
The cast features Thomas and Patricia Petiet, who were compared to Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca in the original reviews. They are supported by a professional ensemble of seven. The show will be filmed for television.
