Our Stories, Our News: A Panel
LIMITED SEATING. Sponsored by The Poetics of Forgiveness Project, Pen America Press Freedom Incentive Fund, and the Hennepin County Library System, "Our Stories, Our News: A Conversation About the Power Of Story" is a panel discussion with Minnesota Public Radio Reporter Mukhtar M. Ibrahim and poet Sun Yung Shin about the role of the personal story in today's news.
Moderated by novelist, journalist, and Co-Founder of The Poetics of Forgiveness Project, Dr. Nicole Mary Milligan (N.M.Kelby) the hour-long panel asks the question "How do we enrich news representation with our stories?" and will examine how we can celebrate our history, mourn our losses, and humanize the world with our words.
This conversation will launch The Lake of Dreams, a Public Art installation celebrating the stories of immigrants. It will feature art from the project and the installation "Remembrance," a series of paper boats moored with pencils that serve as an invitation to the public to write down what they would like to be remembered for.
