The 2018 Barn Players Barn KIDS summer program...

SEUSSICAL, KIDS
JUL 13-15, 7:30pm

Music by Stephen Flaherty
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty
Co-Conceived by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Eric Idle
Based on the works of Dr. Seuss
Music Supervised, Adapted and Produced by Bryan Louiselle

Directed by Nancy Eppert

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime).

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton's challenge is twofold  not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Frequently Asked Questions...

When are auditions/enrollment?
There are no auditions for the Barn KIDS production of SEUSSICAL, KIDS. Open enrollment will take place online on a first-come first-serve basis, with a limit of 35 student-actors. ONLINE ENROLLMENT IS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO OPEN AT 12:01AM, February 14. Payment is due at the time of enrollment.

What is the schedule for the summer session?
(All regular camp sessions run 10:00am - 4:00pm)
Parent Meeting: Late May or Early June TBA
   Camp Week 1: June 25-29
Camp Week 2: July 2-6 (No camp on July 4)
   Camp Week 3: July 9-13 (July 13 is a half-day)
   PERFORMANCES: July 13-15 (Fri/Sat at 7:30, Sun at 2:00)

Is any experience necessary for my child to participate?
SEUSSICAL, KIDS is open to students of all abilities, from those with years on the stage, to those who are trying theatre for the first time. A fundamental component of the Barn KIDS program is bringing students from all levels of experience together so that they may learn from each other as well as staff members. We will work on acting, singing, and dancing skills during rehearsals, as well as learn valuable life skills such as collaboration and respect.

What is the age range accepted?
Students entering 3rd through 7th grades in the 2018-19 school year are eligible.

How much is tuition?
There is a $350 per student tuition that helps defray costs for production, royalties, and staffing. The tuition package includes a package of two comp tickets for family members, opening night flowers, a quarter page Break-a-Leg ad in the program, and a photo CD from the show including head shots.

How and when do we pay?
Tuition payment will be due at the time of enrollment this year. All fees should be payed online through the same secure system that the theatre uses for its box office (Brown Paper Tickets). If your child cannot participate after you enroll, a full refund will be offered until the time enrollment closes, June 11, at 5:00pm.

We will be gone on vacation for part of the time. Can my child still participate?
Missing one or two rehearsals is almost an inevitable part of theatre due to illness, family circumstances, and life in general. Missing more than two rehearsals, however, adds extra stress to the actor, and is unfair to other students who are working on the production. If you know that you will be unavailable for a significant portion of the rehearsal window, we ask that you consider enrolling in a different session or respectfully allow that enrollment slot to be used by another student.

Who should I contact if I have further questions?
If you have questions about enrollment or curriculum, contact Education Director Jason Coats: barnjr@thebarnplayers.org
If you have questions about tuition or payment, contact Board President Vida Bikales: vbikales@aol.com
