I Am My Own Wife tells the story of Charlotte Von Mahlsdorf, a transgender woman who lived openly and survived both Nazi Germany and Communism in Berlin. This Pulitzer Prize winning play by Doug Wright is the only document of who she may have been towards the end of her life when Wright interviewed her in Berlin about her unique experiences. Originally written as a one-man show for a cis actor to perform Charlotte plus 34 other characters, this "revisal" will be for an ensemble of transgender and gender non-conforming actors. When this play was originally on Broadway in 2003, gay marriage was on the table now 15 years later we live under Trump, still having to fight for our rights and still needing to survive.
