[framed] when the levees broke
The documentary series [framed] continues with When the Levees Broke, Spike Lees 2006 documentary film about the devastation of New Orleans, Louisiana following the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina. It was filmed in late August and early September 2005, and premiered at the New Orleans Arena on August 16, 2006 and was first aired on HBO the following week. We will show parts 1 and 2 of the four part series followed by a conversation with the films archivist, Judith Aley.

The presenter, Judith Aley is an archival researcher and producer for documentary and feature films. Her credits range from many projects with Spike Lee including When the Levees Broke and his upcoming feature, The Black Klansman, the Showtime series on climate change, Years of Living Dangerously, Shola Lynchs Free Angela & All Political Prisoners, Michael Moores Capitalism: A Love Story and sIcko, and Amir Bar Levs The Tillman Story.  She recently completed Nathaniel Kahns documentary about the contemporary art world, The Price of Everything, which premiered at Sundance 2018.

[framed] is a presentation by Next Stage Arts Project. Conceived in collaboration with former Tribeca Film Festival director Nancy Schafer, the series continues with the active collaboration of an outstanding group of local documentary filmmakers. The [framed] series presents feature length documentary films, each presented by the filmmaker in an intimate setting at Next Stage, 15 Kimball Hill, in Putney, Vermont.

The newly-renovated Next Stage is located at 15 Kimball Hill, Putney, VT in the village center. The landmarked building was constructed in 1841, and is now fully accessible with an elevator and hearing assist system, excellent sound and sightlines, and supremely comfortable seating. Next Stage has been recognized nationally, including receiving awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and ArtPlace America.
