V-Day Scottsville 2018
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. On February 24, 2018, as a part of the 20th anniversary season of V-Day, women from the Scottsville community will be hosting an evening of entertainment, education, awareness and art centered around two performances of The Vagina Monologues at Victory Hall (V-Day Scottsville 2018).
V-Day Scottsville 2018 includes a sideshow social from 5:45-7:15PM, in between two performances of The Vagina Monologues. During the social we will have a silent auction, raffle baskets, lady performers and singer-songwriters, as well as information about community services working to combat domestic violence. This event is going to be a blast!
Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Southern Albemarle Family Practice, a non-profit community health center with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status. The focus of the practice is to serve people with limited access to healthcare service, and they are facing a 70% cut in federal funding. Family medicine and general practitioners in rural areas are essential in the fight against domestic violence against women, as well as a litany of other impediments to good health and success.
NOTE: While we believe that parents should make decisions for themselves, the monologues have sexually descriptive language and some upsetting references to sexual violence, not to mention cursing, that we personally feel are not appropriate for children under the age of 16.
