ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
The growing number of media outlets and platforms has created more opportunity for you to share your work, yet it's difficult to determine the best way to market your art or find the time to develop and implement a PR/marketing campaign while you focus on creating work. This workshop, led by publicist Staci Smith, guides you step-by-step through the media relations process and helps you determine the most cost- and time-effective methods and resources for launching a successful campaign regardless of the scope of your project, your budget, or time restrictions. At the end of the workshop, you'll be able to create your own pitch and identify at least one media outlet to approach.

*This workshop is open to artists of all disciplines and is ideal for artists in search of press for a project or body of work and artists who'd like insider knowledge of media relations and building a successful PR campaign that complements your overall marketing goals.

TOPICS COVERED:
-Finding and creating a pitch
-Identifying your audiences
-Selecting the best media outlets for your work
-Developing campaign materials
-Creating a campaign timeline
-Outreach & response
-How to leverage your press

TAKEAWAYS:
-The elements and mechanics of a pitch
-Identifying at least one media outlet to pitch your work
-A step-by-step understanding of the media relations process
-A personalized PR campaign outline
-Press list and other resources

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Staci Smith has been a publicist for over 16 years with a specialty in working with arts and nonprofit clients, including Bonhams Auction House, the Galleries at Hermès, Cedar Lake Dance Company, and Knopf Publishing. She regularly places clients in national outlets such as The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press, and NPR as well as local or niche outlets. Her goal is to not simply seek out status symbol press, but the type of publicity that will actually help her clients reach their desired audience and help their organizations grow. Staci's secret weapon is exhaustive research. "90% of the job is finding the right media contact to share your story with!"
