Tongue Assessment
The tongue is a reflection of the state of your digestive tract, or what the Greeks called pepsis. Things like irritation, underfunction, phlegm retention, yeast, dryness and tension can all be read in the tongue. This is a powerful tool that can be used on yourself, or for friends or clients. I cant imagine using herbs without looking at the tongue first!
We will learn to identify organ areas, assess blood stagnation, discern heat, cold, dry, damp and also depletion and fatigue. We will be using each other as examples, so you will also go home with a basic assessment of your own tongue, and tools to read changes in it. This is a participatory and interactive class, so come with your observant eyes, and your tongue!
Natalie was trained in tongue assessment by Matthew Wood and other western herbalists, but also integrates elements of Chinese Medicine into her approach.
Ideally you will have taken my Intro to Herbalism class before taking this one, as your understanding will be deeper. This class is also appropriate for healthcare practitioners and herbalists who want to add this skill to their practice.
