The Morning Star!
On Sunday afternoon December 3 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Tampa, The Master Chorale Ensemble Singers will perform the music of J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo, and Roberto Sierra with music based on the well known theme, how brightly shines the morning star. This concert will be repeated on Friday evening on December 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg. A mini Messiah sing-along will top both these spiritually inspired concerts conducted by Doreen Rao as a preview to the larger performance of the Messiah later on December 21, 22, & 23 with The Florida Orchestra. The Ensemble Singers will be joined by the Master Chorale Outreach Choir. Like the Morning Star traditions worldwide, the celebratory concerts represent many musical stars in multiple traditions and cultures, from Bach to the Baltics.
Handel's Messiah scores will be available for purchase for the sing-a-long portion of the concert.
This weekend of events is made possible with the support of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Pete, the City of St. Petersburg, the City of Tampa, the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, and sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
