Flamenco after school classes in Spanish
FLAMENCO DANCE AND SINGING COURSE - IN SPANISH
Daily class for 10 days, with performance options at the end
Whos in class? Elementary school students from E. Rivers, grades 4-5
Whos teaching? Flamenco dancers, from Andalusia, Spain, with live musicians also from Spain
What are they teaching? Flamenco dance and song
Why is this so cool? These Spanish artists will share their culture, as well as their art form in classes taught in Spanish, promoting essential elements of the IB curriculum and standards in Spanish language, social studies, and math. A teaching artist and Spanish language experts offer activities to help kids acquire the Spanish language used by the artists, so that kids vocabulary grows while they have fun in arts education.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS
Antonio Granjero is a Flamenco dancer from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, and he has been dancing professionally since he was a child, including a debut in Madrid at age 11. He performed with some of the most famous Flamenco companies in Spain in major festivals and theaters in Spain and Europe, and was singled out by the Spanish press for his exceptional talents. He relocated the U.S.A. in 1995, and in the past decade he founded his company Entre Flamenco. Now based in Santa Fe, N.M., his company draws the best Flamenco talent in residence in the U.S.A. and in Spain, and it is the recipient of the 2017 Mayor's award for Arts in Santa Fe.
Lakshmi Basile is a Flamenco dancer performing in Europe and the Americas, and she has been on stage since she was a child. For nearly 10 years, she performed daily as the principle dancer at the popular tablao, El Palacio Andaluz, in Seville, Spain. She appears with major Flamenco artists at private parties, festivals, and large performances throughout Andalucía, Mexico, the U.S.A., and Europe. After winning awards in the Flamenco dance contests of Las Minas and Córdoba, she debuted her own theatrical show in Spain, entitled Zarabanda, Lo Que Duerme en el Cuerpo de los Gitanos.
