ImageFrac - A Different Approach to Fracture Mechanics for Validating Completions Design on Every Well

Abstract: A new concept for operators hydraulic fracturing toolkit validates completions designs with minimum operational risk and cost. IMAGE Frac® pressure-based fracture geometry generates hydraulic fracture maps and fracture growth curves using only a surface pressure gauge, in addition to a bridge plug that isolates an offset wells observation stage. The pressure-based fracture geometry offer a robust yet simple solution that is intended to be used for full-field analysis. Its design enables an operator to gather fracture geometry results across a large area and compare them, to analyze the overall success of the completion design. It also serves as an early warning system for when the established design is not yielding the expected results. The pressure-based measurement technique solves a few of the biggest obstacles for evaluating fracture geometry, which are the high cost of gathering the data, the inconsistency of the analysis, and the high risk that comes with disrupting treatment operations. The pressure-based method is one useful diagnostic tool and is a valuable addition to an overall robust asset development program.
