Developing an Effective Family Program, a Chemical Dependency Training Consortium Event
Goal of Training
Addiction research has determined that successful treatment of an addicted person ideally includes the education of family members. Just as the disease of addiction causes dysfunctional behaviors in the addict, so too does it have psychological, emotional, and spiritual effects on family members. Development of a family program is essential for treatment programs that want to provide complete care. Designing and implementing family programs to fit the needs of specific treatment facilities can be challenging. Various models will be reviewed, and a variety of experientials will be introduced, to enhance the development of effective family programs. This training will discuss assessment of feasibility and expansion of treatment to include a family program and provide a framework for development of family programs.

Behavioral Objectives
Participants of this training will learn:
- The defining qualities of a family program,
- To identify the goals of family program specific needs,
- Elements for demonstrating how family programs meet group objectives,
- How to assess the needs of the population served and capabilities of the agency, and
- The development of program options from support groups to family weekends.
