Ewa is a mother of two children living in rural Poland. Her husband, Andrzej, supports the family by working in Norway. When she gets pregnant with a third child, Ewa leaves her family for a few months to avoid gossip, and she puts the baby up for adoption. When Andrzej returns for their daughters first communion, rumors about his wifes romance with a teenage boy reach him, and their marriage is threatened. Feeling condemned by others and misunderstood, Ewas relationship to her children starts to suffer. Now in the fight for her marriage and family, she must come to terms with the reality of being a mother who abandoned her child.
