Merrimans' Playhouse Jazz Performance Series presents Bram Weijters & Chad McCullough Duo !
Co-leading this half American, half Belgian band together with Chicago based trumpeter Chad McCullough. US Release of Feather (ears&eyes records / Monks and Thieves Records). "The array of brief pieces... have the feel of soundtrack music, accompaniment for a noir-ish European-produced film. There is much beauty, from both musicians, wrapped in a two way symmetry, conceived and executed adeptly. Most appealing are Weijter's futuristic, dream-scape contributions on the Moog, and McCullough's sharp open horn sound as it dances in fluid motion with the Fender Rhodes. Most duo outings are conversational. On Feather, Weijters and McCullough create what sounds more like a melding of minds, combining to create a unique tranquility, hymns of futuristic religion." -Allaboutjazz.com.

"Weijters' music is just a joy to listen to. (All about Jazz). A special mention goes to Bram Weijters extraordinary piano playing (De Morgen). ...marvelous interactions from pianist Bram Weijters(JazzMozaiek). These are just a couple of quotes about Bram Weijters, a belgian, antwerp based pianist and composer who focuses
mainly on jazz, improvisational and alternative music. Together, these musicians have played around 100 concerts in Europe the US and even Russia and up to now have recorded 3 quartet albums and also one duo album. All original compositions, often described as contemporary and lyrical. Heralded for his solos of mercurial poetry and high craft (Chicago Tribune), Chad McCullough has matured into an integral part of the international jazz scene with his playing, composing, and vast knowledge of the music business. He is a rare instrumentalist who makes each note sound as if it were imbued with a deeper meaning. Certainly a player with great chops, his approach is one that is measured and deliberate, often introspective, sometimes gorgeously melancholic, and one that employs a continuity of mood and atmosphere that the best recordings have.  Dan McClenaghan. As a composer, McCullough has scored for film, written for various large ensembles, dancers, string and chamber groups- in both classical and jazz idioms. Many of his pieces have been featured music spots on NPR. He is currently a member of the Jazz Studies faculty at DePaul University in Chicago.
