Juanito Pacual at the ZAG!
The Zen Arts Group (ZAG) is proud to welcome Juanito Pascual!
Flamenco guitarist/composer/improviser Juanito Pascual has been called "one of the hottest flamenco guitarists in recent years" by National Public Radio, a major accolade which in this case is just the jumping off point for the Minneapolis native's musical style. His sound is a truly organic blend of traditional and contemporary flamenco with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Miles Davis and J.S. Bach.
Inspired to share the beauty and soul-stirring passion of this ancient yet evolving tradition, Juanito is an active educator as well as performer, and authored the "The Total Flamenco Guitarist" method book published by Alfred Press. He has performed and recorded with an array of notable flamenco musicians and dancers including a recent tour with Paco de Lucia's longtime flautist Jorge Pardo, as well as luminaries from the worlds of jazz and world music including bassist John Patitucci (Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter) and Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon, Simon Shaheen). Juanito's 2014 CD release "New Flamenco Trio" was included on NPR critic Milo Miles' "Top 12 World Music Albums" list for that year (https://mmiles777.wordpress.com/2015/01/12/top-12-world-music-albums-2014/).
