Pittsburgh Crankie Fest 2017
Pittsburgh Crankie Fest 2017 7:30pm Saturday November 18th
The 2017 Pittsburgh Crankie Fest is an evening of folk art, traditional music, stories and songs from a variety of voices and visions.
Crankies are an old storytelling multi-media art form: a crankie is an illustrated scroll that is mounted onto two dowels and housed in a box with a viewing screen. The scroll is hand-cranked by the artist-performer and may be accompanied by a song, tune or spoken word.
This year's Fest features renown cut paper and crankie artists from Baltimore Katherine Fahey and Valeska Populoh, plus a cast of western Pennsylvania artists including host and festival founder Ellen Gozion, Joanne Wiggins, Annie Trimble, Jody and Addie Best, Katy Dement, Laura Ramie and painter Kevin Kutz.
With special guests Emily Pinkerton of The Early Mays and old-time fiddler Mark Tamsula.
