Understanding Unconscious Bias and Micro Inequities with Cornell Interactive Theatre Ensemble (CITE)
The Human Services Coalition in partnership with the Diversity Consortium of Tompkins County presents the Cornell Interactive Theatre Ensemble (CITE).

The program will provide an opportunity for leaders, managers, and employees to explore, experience, and understand the ways we interact with one another. Participants will experience and understand more fully how unconscious bias and micro inequities impact the workplace.

The session uses brief theatrical scenarios, character monologues, as group discussion to engage participants in an interactive exploration of micro inequities and unconscious bias. The program brings to life the stories of two characters that experience challenging interactions that make them feel judged or stereotyped.

The learning objectives of the program are to stimulate discussion about opportunities for greater understanding of diversity and inclusion, including:
Understanding unconscious bias
Providing a definition of micro-inequities/unconscious bias that people can relate to
Recognizing behaviors related to micro inequities and discussing how we might limit those behaviors
Identifying strategies of what can be done on personal, interpersonal and group levels
Identifying skills that are useful in creating a climate of respect: Listening for understanding, especially when we think we are different from one another

Cornell Interactive Theater Ensemble (CITE)
The CITE has a 17-year history of presenting programs to academic and corporate clients that showcase a contemporary dramatization of themes and relationships to foster a dialogue from multiple points of view about some of the challenges of working and living together in a diverse world.

The CITE was formed in January 1992 as a unique resource for employee education and training at all levels. Interactive theatre combines live theatre and audience participation to create a resource for education and training on a wide variety of workplace issues. Participants leave CITE presentations with a deeper understanding of the dynamics of problematic situations in the workplace, with a visceral impression of the impact such problems can have on members in a workplace community, and with strategies for managing and preventing such problems.
