Salem Séance Mystery Theater 2017

The Séance Mystery Theater is an unforgettable, intimate theater experience that uses stories, mind-reading and mentalism, psychic phenomena, and a spirit séance to explore the boundaries of belief, faith, science, and the supernatural. The show is approximately 90 minutes long, but actual times vary, due to the unpredictable nature of the phenomena we invite into the room.

Legend has it that in 1891, a mysterious box appeared at the estate of Arthur Conan Doyle, a skilled physician and the creator of Sherlock Holmes. The box was a gift from Madame Blavatsky, the greatest mystic of the nineteenth century. Not long afterwards, Doyle became the world's leading exponent of spiritualism, the belief that we can communicate with the dead. In 2014, Doyle's box, once lost, was found again. But can we really reach out to the "other" side?

Your "medium" or guide for the evening is Méliès, the stage name of acclaimed mentalist and magician John Sanbonmatsu. Meliès was named "Best Magician in Boston" in 2015 by the Thumbtack website, based on enthusiatic audience reviews of his unique blend of mind-reading, humor, illusion, and mystery. Meliès has performed his signature séance show at the Yawkey Theater at the WGBH television studios in Boston, the Rockwell Theater in Somerville, and the William Cullen Bryant Homestead in the Berkshires.

The Séance Mystery Theater takes place in the elegant Supper Room of historic Hamilton Hall in Salem, widely recognized as one of the most important Federal buildings in America. Named for US Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, the Hall was designed in 1805 and has been in use as an assembly hall for cultural and social events for over two hundred years.

Wheelchair accessible performances may be requested in advance, otherwise the program is held on the third floor of Hamilton Hall, in the Supper Room.
