Birmingham Blues
Birmingham Blues is a gritty, provocative and darkly humorous play about a disgraced doctor, Grace Fancher, who lives out of her car in a homeless encampment in Birmingham, Alabama,  The play explores how this group of society's castoffs survive their often desperate circumstances, through humor, cunning, lying, thievery, generosity and love.  It also travels with Grace on her ultimate road to redemption.

Charlotte Higgins's work has been presented in New York, San Francisco, Sacramento, Nashville, Birmingham and the Midwest, often to sold-out houses.  Her one woman play, Alabama Bound, played in San Francisco and Sacramento to sold out audiences, and moved on to New York, where it was selected and published by Indie Theater Now as part of its "Best of the 2013 NYC Fringe Collection." Charlotte is a native of Alabama and often writes about the South.

Director Maggie Upton,  acclaimed regional director and actor, most recently appeared in Big Idea Theater's Antigone and is a recipient of SARTA's ELLY Lifetime Achievement Award.
Cast: Jody Klemens, Georgann Wallace, Cameron Johnson, Steve Buri, Vincent Chiesa and Cynthia Drumbor.

A portion of each ticket sold will go to organizations that work with the homeless:  Sacramento's St. John's Program for Real Change and the El Dorado Community Foundation's new S.H.A.P.E. fund, looking to find long-term solutions to end homelessness.
