Event
Shiatsu for Midwives and Birth Professionals
Sat 24th & Sun 25th February 2018 10.00am-6.00pm
This course can be attended as a module of the 6 day certificate course. If you came to the Glasgow course in February 2017 please come along for further studies, we will be covering new material and positions. Graduates of previous courses are welcome to come and repeat the course and refresh their skills.
Shiatsu massage and touch are powerful tools to include in your work in supporting women. The Well Mother approach enables Midwives, Doulas, Obstetricians, Physios etc. to learn about the effects of acupressure, and how and when to use the points within the context of the energy of pregnancy and childbirth. For each 2 day module of the 6 days course we build awareness of how to use simple touch techniques to balance the energy of the extraordinary vessels, specifically relating to the dynamics of pregnancy and childbirth, adapting techniques to use in different positions and situations as appropriate. You will gain in depth skills that are simple to apply and integrate into your work to enhance your practice. You will learn to work in an holistic way, combining Ancient Eastern and Modern philosophies. Relevant skills are: specific ways of touching, supporting the energy of childbirth, using acupoints effectively, awareness of posture and movement, and awareness of the energy of the birth environment and its influence, moving towards holding space with energy awareness. You will also explore how shiatsu-based skills can support you personally promoting your own well-being and preventing burn-out.
A basic understanding of the physiology of pregnancy and childbirth is required. People who are mothers or a birth partner for friends/sisters are welcome, as are Shiatsu Practitioners and Massage therapists. But the course won't cover the physiology of birth as it will be assumed to be known. Please get in touch if you don't have this knowledge I can recommend some pre course reading resources.
