The Land of Shadow
The Land of Shadow; directed by Daniel Patrick Fay, is a multi media experience combining object base performance; featuring puppets designed and performed by Daniel Patrick Fay, experimental music composed and performed by Andrew Livingston and performing scenery created by John McLeod. This object-based performance pushes through the screen of traditional puppetry and extends the performance space outward in order to share the space traditionally occupied by the audience. Within the performance space the audience has a contiguous interaction with object and performers. By creating an installation within the performance space the scenery serves as both stage and performer. The scenery is antithetically used as performing objects, even characters. Land of Shadow is as much installation as it is performance. The experience is a combination of various puppetry styles including experimentations in shadow puppetry incorporating multi-media techniques, and an array of rod puppets and marionettes interacting within the installation and set to original scores written by Andrew Livingston. This is as much a musical experience as well as a visual/ performing art theatrical exhibition. The show consists of five acts and is approximately 45 minutes long.
