THE BIG PARADE - The Silent Film presented on Veterans Day- OLD SOUTH CHURCH, BOSTON Nov. 11, 7:15 (6:00 PM Pre-Performance Reception)
The Silent Film Classic THE BIG PARADE starring John Gilbert will be presented at Old South Church in Boston as part of Veterans Day remembrances on November 11, 2014 at 7:15 PM.

International Sonic Artist Peter Krasinski will provide an improvised live accompaniment to the film on the magnificent E. M. Skinner Organ in the sanctuary at 7:15

A limited number of tickets will be available for a special Champagne "Meet and Greet"  Reception at 6:00 PM in Gordon Chapel, also located at Old South Church, where Anthony Fountain, John Gilbert's grandson will give a short overview of his famous grandfather's career.

THE BIG PARADE (film at 7:15) is a 1925 American silent film directed by King Vidor and starring John Gilbert, Renée Adorée, Hobart Bosworth, and Claire McDowell.  Adapted by Harry Behn from the play by Joseph Farnham and the autobiographical novel Plumes by Laurence Stallings, the film is about an idle rich boy who joins the US Army's Rainbow Division and is sent to France to fight in World War I, becomes a friend of two working class men, experiences the horrors of trench warfare, and finds love with a French girl.
The film was groundbreaking for not glorifying the war or ignoring its human costs, exemplified by the lead character's loss of a leg from battle wounds. It heavily influenced all subsequent war films, especially All Quiet on the Western Front.

ANTHONY FOUNTAIN, (Meet and Greet Reception at 6:00) grandson of the screen star John Gilbert, had a go at acting himself years ago but discovered early on that though he bore a certain resemblance to his grandfather (as confirmed by, among others, his late grandmother Leatrice Joy) he also possessed not one whit of his talent and thus was forced to find a real job. To that end, for the past seventeen years he has been happily ensconced in the music archives at Sony Music Entertainment, where he specializes in classical artists and repertoire.

Last years Veterans Day event at Old South Church featured the silent film WINGS and received the following accolade:

"Krasinski's musicianship and command of the organ were matched by his intuition and keen sense of dramatic sensitivityMr. Krasinski's ability to paint the story sonically merited a standing ovation at the film's conclusion. All the while, he made it clear that it was the film, which merited such praise, for without (film director) Wellman's own skill, we would not have been graced by such a pairing of genius."

PETER EDWIN KRASINSKI is broadly recognized as a motivating consultant for the pipe organ community, and as a conductor, organist, and music educator whose imaginative and energetic performances elevate and inform diverse audiences. Well respected in both the secular and sacred genres of his field, he has taught the enchantment of music to both public and private institutions in the greater Boston area for many years. His Bach interpretations have been hailed in print as "sublimely spiritual", and his improvisations have been critically acclaimed in the press as "stunning", "seamless", and "brilliant".

He specializes in the art of live silent film accompaniment, world wide and after many performances including five tours of Japan is fast becoming recognized as the worlds leading presenter of the art form. His recent performance of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS as a fund raiser for  THE PINE STREET INN garnered from the press "It was as if Krasinski became one with the elements"

REVIEWS

"This was a great marriage of movie and music and was received with enthusiasm."
Lee Eiseman, The Boston Music Intelligencer
THE CAMERAMAN

"Mr. Krasinski is, it turns out, one of the world's finest, if not the leading silent film live improvisational accompanists."
Aram Yardumian , The Times Quotidian
NOSFERATU

"It was remarkable and seamless, and yes, no modern action movie could out-do it.
In fact, I'll go so far as to say it was live theater. It was as if Krasinski became one with the elements"
Gigi Mitchell-Velasco, The Boston Music Intelligencer
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

"Krasinski is an artist like no other--a once in a generation talent"
Richard Clark, Music Director, St. Cecilia's Church, Boston
KING OF KINGS

"Anyone who has been lucky enough to hear Mr. Krasinski in performance knows his skill at presenting the essence and power of a film."
Roger Rideout, University of Masachusettes
OLD IRONSIDES

"Krasinski's German dance-trio movement during bureaucratic proclamations were gleefully illustrative. And the evening's performance culminated in a particularly poignant immolation scene featuring Gyger's Libera me underscored by an almost violent organ."
Sudeep Agarwala, The Boston Music Intelligencer
THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC (Collaborative performance)

"Krasinski's playing was brilliant, weaving Bach themes in and out and catching the mood and humor of the images on the screen. Along with this, his playing for the film was enjoyable. He not only knew what to play, he knew when not to play."
Dr. Robin Leaver, Yale University
THE BOAT ("Bach Meets Buster" at Boston Bach Birthday Event)

Peter-san,
I've just returned home from attending your performance at Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama. When it came to "Metropolis" you were excellent. Period. I could truthfully feel the music. During the applause and encores, you gestured to the hall's organ - I'm sure it was, in turn, bowing to you in appreciation for having being played so dexterously.
Allan Murphy
Fine Line Press representative, Tokyo
METROPOLIS

I have not heard ANYBODY play better, with the proper flavor and absolute perfect musical punctuation for silent comedy since the immortal Gaylord Carter. Peter Krasinski has brought the true impact those films had on audiences back in the teens and twenties. Films so great that we still enjoy them 90 years later. It's organists like Peter that will keep them alive for another 90 years."
Mac Estelle
Silent comedian and film maker.
