"The Italian Job" - Mico Pugliares
As part of Improv Fest Ireland 2014
www.improvfestireland.com

We often find ourselves witnessing scenes of theatrical improvisation lacking scenic awareness, as though the fact itself that they're taking life on a theatrical stage had little importance.

My work is that of making the experience of "traditional" text based theatre available to the improvised scene. This workshop focuses on the importance of the character's intention and awareness, and on the concept that the text comes as a consequence.
As I say, it does not matter so much what you say as how you say it.
It's a workshop based on non-verbal communication, pauses and silences, which are paramount and indispensable to convey truth and credibility to a scene or a character. We will work on intentions before encountering words, on expressive silences and pauses as a basic part of acting, and on proxemics in general. In particular, we will focus on:

intention as the heart of the text's line

the character as an explosion of physicality in the space, before any word is spoken

we will also use the Gibberish language, and will stage scenes acting together in different languages

The workshop will be held in english. MY english.

Domenico Mico Pugliares was born in Sicily and then moved to Lombardy. As strange as it might seem. He took a master's degree in Political Science and after dedicating many years music (he is on stage since 1985), he devoted himself to theatre, studying acting at the Cooperativa Theatre in Milan with important names of the theatrical Italian scenario. Mico started his experience of theatrical improvisation studying at the Improvisation School of Milan "Teatribù", where he become a teacher after a three year training. He then continued studying improvisation with international names like Randy Dixon, Charles Castillo, Omar Galvan, Kevin John Gillese, Amber Nash, Stephen Sim, Jill Bernard, Orla Mc Govern. In the past 10 years he's been teaching theatrical improvisation techniques and acting all around Italy, and has played a role in many shows of theatrical improvisation in Italy as well as in Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, United States and Finland. As an actor, author and director he takes part in many production of "official" theatre working in many different theatres. Among them the Piccolo Teatro of Milan, one of the most important theatre in Europe. His professional path and inspiration arises from the need of merging the tools of Improvisation with those of text based theatre.
